About the event

Interdisciplinary improv/exploration sessions welcome musicians, dancers, movers, painters, writers, and artists of all types in any stage of their career into a shared space where they can explore, improvise, and experiment together.


Come prepared to:

  • Explore free improvisation practices across discipline and genre, in open jam formats, and guided prompts led by musician/composer Jack Ramsey. No prior improv experience is required, just an interest to explore and experiment. Examples might be a violinist, pianist, cellist, guitar with effects pedals, building worlds of sound together in response to a live painter or dancer. Another example might be a writer improvising one sentence prompts that form the basis for a group improvisation.

  • Learn from other artists of other genres and disciplines. How does a painter apply a musical concept like crescendo to their work? What are analogies to melody and harmony in movement? How do we construct phrasing as artists? Do w…
